Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young

In 1969 former members of the bands Buffalo Springfield, The Byrds and The Hollies joined together to play their first public performance at Woodstock. David Crosby, Graham Nash and Steven Stills blended soaring harmonies and intricate guitar riffs into some of the most renowned music of the time. Soon joined by occasional member Neil Young they had a tumultuous relationship seeing the band break up and reform on a number of occasions. Legal problems, drugs and egos tore at the heart of the collaboration, yet they always pulled it back together again.

String Cheese Incident

Tonight (a day late) I am offering one of the great jam bands of our time. Unfortunately, in assembling tonight’s selection I learned that this band has recently broken up, with the artists off to pursue their individual projects. I’m glad that I was fortunate to have attended a number their live shows over the past years at various San Francisco venues. Some of the videos in tonight’s offerings are from the Red Rocks Amphitheater and their last show together.

So, without further delay, grab the marinara sauce ‘cause tonight we’ve got lotsa mozzarella.

Hot Tuna

Tonight I’m bringing the show back across the Atlantic. In fact all the way to the Pacific Coast.

Tonight’s band was born out of the ‘60s San Francisco staple: the Jefferson Airplane. Headed by Jack Cassidy and Jorma Kaukonen, the band initially was an outlet for acoustic blues, evolving over the years - at times heavily electrified with Papa John Creech wailing on the electric fiddle, at others sweet acoustic blues.

So grab the sourdough and cheese because tonight we have a heaping helping of steaming Hot Tuna!
